I am looking at the new Orvis TLS 9wt rod. I am thinking of using it to cast out from the surf/beach. Which reel do you fellows think would go well with this rod?? I did look at the Battenkill large arbor from Orvis, but I would like your ideas/recommendations.

Reel Selection

I have the same rod, and I use the Orvis Battenkill Large Arbor. It's a great match-up for that rod. If you want to go with a bit less expensive reel, try the Orvis mid arbor. That reeel is also a good match for the rod. I have nothing but good things to say about Orvis products. They stand behind everything they sell........GHOSTRIDER

Didn't know if you were aware or it mattered, but to me it does.

I was looking at Fly stuff in the Orvis store here in NYC. The sales person told me, and I chatted with Orvis on line to confirm, there reels are made in Korea. Because I was only looking for a reel I didn't ask them about the rods.

I do know that Ross sells a great outfit made in the good old USA. with a life time guarantee. It's there Essence FC model. Comes with a reel, case, rod, backing and a great DVD on how to Fly fish. You can get the entire package for 225.00.

Thanks for responding and suggesting some options for my new fly rod. I decided to go with the Lamson Velocity reel. I hope it is as good as I have been lead to believe.
