I was fishing under the light last Thursday evening and watched a guy swim out to the rip from Scott's. He looked like a Sea Otter and by the time he got out there all you could see was a head and the top half of a surf stick. The Gentleman next to me said he was "skishing". I thought he was a little nuts, but the more I thought about it the more intrigued I became. I've done the wetsuit thing and am a good swimmer - what do you need to know to battle and best a big bass when you're in "over your head"? Thanks, Alberto and compliments on your bucktail discussion.

Hello Bassavant

Yes, that is called SKISHING and this is the ultimate form of extreme fishing! In fact, my friend Paul Melnyk is probably the man responsible for its popularity!

I've skished before and it's not for everybody! In fact, it is VERY DANGEROUS and there are meticulous techniques you must know prior to venturing out. First of all, it starts with a good set of flippers, a warm wetsuit with lots of buoyancy (6 & 7 mm) , a good set of knife, small plug bag for "single hook" offering (bucktailing and eeling) for easy unhooking. Other factors one MUST know if the Tide / Moon / Current / and a good sense of geographical area where you will be drifting to!

As to the technique… Well, it's a different hook setting, drag adjustments (lighter) etc…

The bottom line is…There is so much more information you need to know that it is impossible to provide it via Internet! Send me an email and I will forward you the necessary information!

Again, I don't endorse this kind of fishing and it's not for everyone! It's demanding and strenuous on the body, requires a different mind set and it's extremely dangerous!
