ok here's a little idea, maybey you guys do it already, maybey not

when we get a shark on i let the chum basket float away from the boat while we go off and fight the fish so when the fight is over all we have to do is go back the basket and our "never interupted slick".
alot of the time we just get close to the floating basket to find sharks "inspecting/mauling" it. you just throw them a biat and off you go again

the basket has a four foot fiberglass rod that clips into it with an orange flag and a small radar reflector on it{it's on the boat thats why its not in the picture}i was using rod saftey lines to tie it off but lost a couple when they were dangling from the basket{maybey this year i'll use that "thingamawhatsey" from another post to make a quick release}

another good thing is when we swow up at the sharkin grounds in the morning we can through it over and go off to troll for a while and come back to our pre-made slick
just an idea share the knowledge

Interesting very Interesting

F/F,
I like your idea and will be confering with my crew as we try to build a better mouse trap for the 2003. Hookem is the best because on one trip we pop a line because of traffic in the slick.
On those days when you are drifing and doing nothing, when a school of tuna come crashing though and you want to give chase, the idea of leaving the chum behind warrants some merit. Thanks for sharing, and now back to building the mouse trap....LOL

its been taken down a couple times but it always pops back up

hookem
before you launch it, you just figure out witch side of the boat the fish wants to go to. turn that way and after clearing the other lines let it go. you usualy can tell witch way the fish is gonna go, but a couple times last year we had close calls [like 6 feet or so] and just adjusted the line angle with steering the boat
hipshot
i used two pieces of scrap aluminum i had around. made 2 squares out of it, then bent it at a 90 degree angle, then pop rivet them on a four point angle .the squares were about 8"x8" .the fiber-glass pole w/ *** is from a bicycle store.
yould be suprized how far away from your slick you get when your off fighting a good fish for an hour or so,
and you never have to start the slick over- 1/2 mile away from where you left it
i got this idea when we were on a charter a couple years ago. when a fish hit the capt brought the chum on the swim platform, and we went off for a hour fight, then had to start a new slick -and wait, and wait, and wait
