Hoping to replicate a personal best on tuesday night I went back to montaul at the same tide. The national weather service had called for 4 foot seas. It looked like about 3 feet but nothing was breaking. On the verge of an incoming tide I wasn't too concerned about the rips. I had an outgoing water temperature of about 70, and the winds were 10 to 15 out of the southwest.
My usual spots were producing some nice fish - all of the 30 to 36 inch range. Did have one brush with greatness; I had a fish take line so quickly and with such ease that I knew that even if it was foul hooked it was a very big fish. Didn't have it for long, but I'll be back for that one. It was pretty surreal out there; at one point there was a fog-shrouded moon over one shoulder and a sunrise over the other. Sunrise killed the bite. I was still marking tons of fish. They just stopped biting. A fog set in, so I got out.
