I tried the patch a long time ago, didn?t like it. It made me very restless, anxious and jumpy.

I have not tried to quit smoking many times over the years. (maybe 3) I had a bad reaction to an out patient procedure a couple of months ago that made me realize I have to quit smoking. After coming out of the sedation I couldn?t breathe. It was a huge struggle and it felt like I was drowning.

I started taking Chantix as prescribed and I must say the stuff works great
. I did change it up towards the end. You lose the sensation or craving for a cigarette most all the time. I am on my last day of taking it today and I have practically quit smoking completely. I don?t have a cigarette every day, but every couple of days I have one. It is not so much a craving as an old hard to kill habit at this point.

I hope I can make it over the final hump and be done with cigarettes forever.

Good luck in your struggle steezo, I for one am pulling for you.

Scare tactics never worked on me crabman
.

I watched two uncles die from cancer; one was my mother?s twin brother who I liked a lot.

What did work was when I went in for a simple procedure (colonoscopy
) that is supposed to be a snap; as soon as I went under I started violently coughing. So much that I have to go back next year for another one
.

When I woke up I couldn?t breathe. They put me on oxygen and another IV. I watched people come and go for a couple of hours before I was able to get enough breath into my lungs so they would release me.

I went home and lied on the bed the rest of that day with the feeling a horse had kicked my chest. That really sucked

I was a pack a day guy back into my early 20s. When I started to develope bronchitis a couple years in a row, the doctor told me I was heading for trouble. That was enough for me to quit cold turkey. I wasn't easy but I stuck with it and got through it.

After all you have seen and been through I can't believe that you are not strong enough to save your own life. Grow some nads and quit smoking

I have used the patch and I had to remove it at night. Very vivid dreams when I wore it during the night. Actually they were more like nightmares. Stopped using the patch and went with the gum. Worked much better for me.

My nads are fine Crabby, thanks for asking;) I was a pack a day smoker for about 30 years.

One of my issues is that I never thought much about living so long to be ?old?. I seriously thought (from my lifestyle and things I?ve done) that I would never live to seen my 30th birthday, and I was fine with that.

I still didn?t think much about it until about my 40th birthday. If I died, I died and that?s that.

I have been giving it a lot of thought lately and I kind of like being alive so I am trying to do what I can to stick around a little longer
. Once I completely quit the cigarettes I will look into dropping some weight.

I have had only one cigarette in the past three days. That one was yesterday afternoon. I took the dog for a run on the north side of Long Beach and it was so nice out I sat my @ss on a log and lit a cigarette. I smoked about ½ of it before I put it out.

I will quit the cancer sticks completely, I hope soon.

I did the Patch and also had Hypnosis at the same time. The Patch was Rx. back in '92 GHI paid for it. I smoked 3 packs a day more with a drink and worked in a hospital. I enjoyed every cig. but hated the cough, you could here me coming a block away.

GOOD LUCK and DO IT

Quit over 2 1/2 years ago. Used the gum (2mg). Never tried the patch but heard from several people who did about the wierd and vivid dreams. Took me 7 or 8 times over about 5 years to finally make it stick. The one thing I realized for me, and was the mistake I made on all previous tries, was/is that I can NEVER have just one. The hard part for me was working it out of my daily routines. Smoking would break my day into little segments, eat lunch, have a cig, finish a design, have a cig, stop to think, have a cig, etc. It's how I would begin/end everything. Even after my first year, I'd be in my shop and I would stop to think about something, and without thinking my left hand would reach for the pack of cigs. Quitting was one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life, and like Koz, I never imagined I would make it this far. Keep at it

I never tried the patch, but know a few who did.
One of them had success with it. The others did not.
He picked the one that was right for his habit and cut it in half before using it.
He also smoked with it on...but did not get sick from it.
Guess it effects everyone different.

I stopped smoking so many times, I am really good at it now.
It's staying off them that is the hard part.
