Yesterday I had the honor and privilage of being invited on the McSquid. This is NOT your "Ordinary Vessel" Also on this FLOUNDER POUNDER Extravaganza was John "Shebeen" and Mike "Morefishlesswork" and ofcourse CAPTAIN KENNY (McSquid)Keep in mind I have NOT targeted Flounders on a Boat in almost 5 years. Especially on a super craft like the McSquid. Before I tell you about this INCREDIBLE trip let me tell you about the 19 ft vessel that has it all. I would compare the Mcsquid with the hotel chain Extended Care America which if any of you have never been to has a microwave, Refrig and all appliances. That is what the Mcsquid reminded me of. The Mcsquid had the latest and greatest life saveing equipment which later in this story you will hear about why we needed it (LOL) The Mcsquid had DELUX Live Well, had loran, top notch fish finding equipment. Bottom Line is the Mcsquid had all the Comforts of an Eastmans charter as if I was on the Lady Merilee. Almost forgot the Mcsquid even had a seperate pee bucket. Almost forgot to mentiopn the Chum Bag which slides down with the anchor. GENUIS idea Mister McSquid. We met at Eastmans Docks at 7 AM at the public ramp and we waited a few extra minutes for Captain Johnny Shebeen who was MORE than ready for this Flounder POUNDER Extravaganza. After seeing the QUALITY of the worms purchased by Captain McSquid I walked over to Eastmans and Tori (mate) was gracious enough to give us enough Clams to last the day. A little credit must be given to Phil Eastman as our first drop was made a mere 5 minutes from the Dock where yours trully taught the NH boys a lesson on Flounder fishing. I had 5 keepers on FIRST drop with one of them a whopping 17 inches wheighing 1 lb 3/4 a real BEAUTY and the biggest surprise of all a keeper Black Sea Bass. Unfortunetly the tide started ripping and the wind picked up so we started to take a beating. Would that stop these 4 characters on the 19 Foot McSquid NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO it would not. Captain Kenny "Mcsquid" them moved his vessel on a few other drops which produced a slow pick on both short and keeper Flounder for all involved. Then came time for Captain Kenny to pull a rabbit out of his hat and find flat fishing haven (LOL)Captain Kenny said The NH boys would out class the NY guy on the next spot and he was right. Captain Kenny put the Mcsquid on a drift in 15 to 20 Knot winds and seas 3 to 5 feet. Most anglers would have been BEGGING Captain McSquid to take us home and offer a rebate ticket BUT considering the $ 15 fare their was NONE of that jibberish. Captain Kenny put out what appeared to be a raincoat for the drift but was a Parachute device to slow the drift down and keep us moveing in one direction. All of a sudden Captain John Shebeen started to come alive and was picking Keeper Flounder on 3 consecutive dripts while I not used to Flounder drifting felt lost. Captain Johnny had 5 to my NONE ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!! Then More Fish and Mcsquid started catching them also. Captain Johnny then pulled up a BEAUTIFUL Boston Mackeral. WOW only 15 minutes rom the dock. I then decided to try a Mackeral Rig since my Flounder drifting skills were inept.POW - MACK attack on. I had a FULL STACK of Macks and these were all nice sized ones. After putting 5 Macks in the Boat. Mike More Fish tried and he scored with 4 Macks on the next drift. WHAT A DAY - Flounders, SEA BASS, Mackeral and assorted other not so enlightning species such as Bergall, Skate, Sculpins, Some funky looking Sea Robins. What a day on the McSquid.Almost forgot to mention - There was a SMALL potential FIRE (LOL) when Captains Mcsquids dash started to Smoke like the Towering Inferno. Captain McSquid quickly put out the Potential blaze by cutting all wires.Thank You Captain McSquid, Mike Morefishlesswork and Captain Shebeen for makeing this a TRUE Extravaganza. In just a "few" hours we wound up with 22 Keeper Flounder, More Mackeral than I cared to count and 1 Seabass to take home.GREAT DAY with GREAT people. ALL MET THRU NOREAST CHARTERSPictures to follow and their are plenty !
