What do you think is the right match for a P229 with braid? I will use this almost exclusively for togging on sheepshead bay boats. Weights typically from 5 to 12 oz. I was considering the BL 7030 C, but then someone advised that it is heavier than I really want... any experiences/opinions on this? According to older post it's a great rod, just wondering if the 7025 (or something else)is a better choice. This is an off-the shelf rod, not custom. Thnx!

Hi,

You are looking at the Lamiglas Tri Wall Series of rods/blanks. They are an excellent choice, sensitive, back bone and priced well. They are made of composite material, Fiberglass for flexibility and graphite for sensitivity and strength.

The BL 7030 is rated 15-30# test line. I build on the blank counterpart. It is very sensitive for a so called big rod. This rod/blank will handle 50# test with no problem. I have this as one of my demo rods and it is my personal black and cod rod, stripers and blues also.

Th BL 7025 is rated 12-25# test. I like this for 8-12 oz sinkers. I have hung a 16 oz sinker on it and it held it fine. I like this in deep water for fluke, sea bass and porgys. You could black fish with this.

Check out some of the Seeker blanks.

Saw my first Calstar factory rods today. Very well made and they were spined properly

Above was for up to 30# test line.

Below is for up to 25#test line.

Get to see as many of these as you can and flex them to see how they feel to you.

I have a BL7030C and love it. I will buy one more and buy a couple of it's lighter brethern. I don't know if I buy the rod made already or just the blank. I have yet to decide. Lami does a nice job.

I bought mine at the Nassau show for $100.00. It was market down from 147 to 127, and I pointed out a bent guide. The guy said it's your for $ 100.00. I didn't dispute. Two days later I used it to catch deep drop seabass off the Lou VII it was surprisingly capable.

Hi,

I called Todd Vivian at Lamiglas last week. It had to do with the BL Series/CGBT blanks. They are just great! While talking to him I told him he was killing us custom rod builders with the insanely low prices of the BL Series. A few years ago some blank/factory rod companies were upset with custom rod builders in different parts of the country under pricing the factory rods. After teasing him for several minutes we had some laughs.
Lamiglas makes a proper rod and the prices are very reasonable. Enjoy that new rod. I hope to build many rods on those blanks this year.

There's no dispute the rods are great. All this talk of building custom rods makes me interested in doing it myself. A few years ago I tried my hand at it and produced a pretty good rod. Only thing though was that the flex coat bubbled up.

Hi,

An easy problem to fix. After I install the finish I use and alcohol burner to pass the flame under the wraps as the rod is turning. The heat breaks the surface tension of the finish releasing the trapped bubbles.

Do not use a hair dryer or heat gun as they will blow dust etc. onto the wraps.

Everyone interested in building a custom rod stay tuned. My friend Al Goldberg will probably put a Seminar together again, maybe in the Fall.
Myself and several other RodCrafters will be on hand to assist him. We did this 1 1/2 years ago at the KofC Hall in New Hyde Park and it was a great success for everyone. The money raised was sent to a program to send kids fishing.
