With water temps hovering in the 82-84 degree range, I can't say I'm surprised to hear that yellowfin and albacore have become scarce. With that said, you can't catch tuna at the dock, so after spending much of the summer focusing on family commitments and inshore adventures it was time to point the bow of the 44' Henriques to the 100 fathom line. Upon arriving at 6AM Friday morning in bumpy conditions, we deployed our bigeye spread and proceeded to drive around in circle for hours and hours, waiting for the bait and hopefully the elusive bigeye to rise to the surface. With only a single white marlin to break the monotony of the day, spirits were low when at 9PM one of our reels finally began scream. Thirty minutes later a nice 150lb class bigeye graced the deck. At 11:30PM magic once again struck and soon thereafter a similar sized bigeye was in the ****pit. That would be all for the night and despite a valiant effort the following day we were unable to coax another tuna bite for the trip. While far from a barn burner, and neither of our fish was particularly big, any trip with two big eyes is a good one in my book and it certainly lights the fire to get back out to edge. Tight lines - Jess
