That Bertram 31 that was on the "Priceless" thread ( about Rampage)-- the picture is so busy that I can't get good detail. What is the big box aft on the port side? Is the boat used for refueling? The post date is 12/10. Anybody?

Charlie,
I was thumbing through an old copy of Offshore magazine (I think from last year) and saw the article of the Bertram get together in Block Island, and there was your boat tied up with a few others. Those B31's are classic looking and every owner I've spoken to speaks highly of them.
I'll see you around Freeport as I'm out of Hudson Canal (34' Silverton).

CWJ - can you tell me what the difference between the Bahia Mar and the Moppie models is?

And your particular boat - she's just a classic beauty, can you tell if that model rolls less on the drift than the flybridge models?

That was always the big turnoff for me with those boats, but I'm thinking that your boat might not have that issue.

the moppie or somtimes called the sedan has the same interior lay out as the sport fisherman,no rear bulk head and no bridge, if you go to www.boats.com page 3 or 4 you will see one for sale its located in willmington nc 1962.
the bahia mar is all deck and very little cabin, it does have a stand up head and v berth. as far as rolling on drift, iam on my second 31 first being the fbc, they all roll due to the nature of the hull, but i have to say the bahia mar rolls less due to the fact it has no bridge, less top heavy.

Ah - ha, that's what I thought

So would it be fair to say that the Bahia Mar was the precursor of the modern "Express"-style fisherman, that's so very popular today?

BTW - what ballpark does a completely done-over Bahia Mar 28 and/or 31 really go for these days. assuming diesels were transplanted? in Not the "Ask" I see in all the ads, but a real-world selling price. Or in this specific case are the Ask and the Sell prices about the same?

the 31 bertram first came off the line in 1962, this boat was the for runner of all the rest of the deep v boats that followed, ray hunt designed the hull, he also designed the hull of the boston whaler.
a completly re done 31to buy or to do your self will be in the ball park of $100,000 dependinig on how much you get the boat for and what type of power plant your going with, the two popular being yanmar and cummins. a $100,00 is a good round figure plus or minus.
