From my previous thread some of you have suggested Temple Fork Rods. They do look good for the price. I have seen the website and Cabela's catolog. Neither have a combo option. Could any of you suggest a good reel for: model 909 9ft 2pcs 9wt. Cabelas is showing $89.99 for the rod. Temple Fork's website states a life time warranty on the pole. Thanks again.

Mike, I fish out of Port Chester and have been fly rodding the sound for the last 7 -8 years. I have many, many outfits but the one I goto 95% of the time is my Temple Fork 9wt 4Pc with an Okuma 8/9 L/A Integrity reel. You can get the whole setup for around $200. The rod is excellent and the real is more than capable of anything you will encounter in the area. Nice part about the reel is that spare spools are around $20 which make changing lines a breeze. I know where you can get a great deal on that combo if your interested email me at [email protected]

double the pleasure?

SandFlee...Thanks for your input. My question is a tough one because it is all a matter of preference, but for almost twice as much do you think the TIOGA is twice as good as an OKUMA? Thanks

to tell ya the truth, this is my first setup but i would have to guess and say yes it's worth the 150, it's really all in the drag, the better quality reels, better drag system, more $$, i'm just hoping the Tioga drag hold up to a few Albies, if not it'll be time to dish out $500-$600 for an Abel or a Tibor,,, i think that would be the truest test of a reel, an albie smokin off 150 yards...

Drag not Stop

The drag on any reel, fly, spin, conventional etc. is designed just to be that a drag, not something that will stop a truck. Most people don't understand this concept and set the drag to the extreme. This is what truly destroys reels. I've been fishing with the Okuma L/A Integrity since it came out 4 years ago and have caught plenty of Blues, Stripers and Albie both from the beach and boat. Other than a little surface wear, well worth the $70 I paid for it. No need to spend $500 on a reel unless money is no object at all.

Temple Fork 8wt

I also have multiple set-ups but I have been very happy lately with my Temple Fork IM8 8wt 4pc paired with an Islander 3.8LX reel. Reel is twice the price of the rod but for the "smokers" its worth it. Rod is relatively soft so you have to slow it down a touch. I have both Lamson and Teton (but not Tioga) both work great, don't know about Okuma. Most of the time the reel is not important....especially on schoolies, harbor blues etc.
