I made mine similar to this one. Use 12-15? of half inch rope with a loop spliced on both ends then crimp on a section of either rubber or nylon coated stainless cable and put a clip on the other end. Done

I like this style over straight rope because it sinks making it easier especially if you have to walk the fish through it..

that is the same as what I use for the most part. As stated above ot works good because it sinks and rope will not. One secured I swap it out for a piece of regular rope since there is less connections and can trust it more.

Mine was similiar to the photo but I recommend a quality stainless swivel between the cable and rope.Sea Isle has them pre made or you can buy the components your missing.
