Can anyone tell me their experience with Suzuki outboards? A friend of mine is considering buying a boat with a 1998 Suzuki outboard. Are they reliable? Hard to service? Expensive to service? Are parts hard to find?

Thank you

Raymond,
I happen to be one of the few Suzuki fans,I am very happy with them.I have mine serviced in Champion marine in Freeport. Its no more or less expensive than any other outboard to service. I may be wrong or crazy but I trust my single 1994 200hp Suzuki to take me 40-50 miles offshore and back.I don't have a kicker yet but I do belong to Boat U/S.

B. Attitude:

Thanks for the response. What about maintenance? Do you require any special oil? What things should my friend be wary of when he looks at the motor? Do you winterize on your own or does the shop do it for you? What's the fuel consumption on your boat? Finally, about how many hours have you put on your motor?

Thanks,

Raymond

You're not the only fan of Suzuki, B.Attitude!!

Been around boats a fairly long time, but I am taking delivery on my first new boat in about 2 weeks. Getting it with twin 140 4 strokes. Seen enough of the Suzuki technology over the past 10 years to know that I only want the best!

Seems that alomost all the problems that you hear about really boil down to dealer related issues. No engines are perfect, but with proper maintenance and care, I believe the Suzukis come close.

Save some of them flatties for me guys!

Another suzuki fan checking in.My 1985 suzuki 65 hp 3 cyl.has a lot more than 1000 hrs.and never had a wrench to it.Small dealer network is drawback but they are around. The BOAT US towboat in my area uses only suzuki V6,s on his boats. That 6 year warranty is nice feature.Mad mahi, those new 140 4 strokes are impressive.Might get one if I need to repower.
