for the beach and jetties in NJ i got big swimmers wood and plastic...last year late april and early may teh smokey joe super shad rap worked pretty consistently as did a yellow surfster.
for the rivers it will be mostly jigs and i carry a bunch of different ones with me and usually let the fish dictate which ones they want that particular nite...some standards have been 6" shads in opalescent white , yellow and black and wine was a good color last year early on...alos a good producer for me last spring was an assassin type knock off in blue...teh name escapes me but they were about 6" long with a slim profile
I plan on chunking a bit more than i did last spring...that is if I can consistently snag bunker
