hey Al, quick question----i have a 10' ron arra lami and currently use a calcutta 400 with 20lb test. The set is great for bucktailing off of jetties and casting swimming plugs----BUT----i do not like the shimano calcutta reels. I had the bearings replaced twice in 3 years.

Can you recommend a reel(s)with a level wind that casts well, can handle 20-25lb test, and that is more durable then a calcutta

Hi Jackson,

First of all, I have a few Shimano Calcutta reels and it's a great casting reel with a great warranty. However, since you are working jetties tossing bucktails and swimmers… I personally like the no level wind reels like the Amb. 7500 c3 and the Newell 229. It's has more line capacity than the Shimano 400 and it allows me to toss heavier payloads with heavier line.

Since you are looking into the level wind series…. You may want to take your rod along and go to a reputable B&T shop and test around for a good fit and balance. Look into the Amb. 7000 c3 and the Penn. Intl casting series. ;)

Once you've decided… let me know which one you picked. :)
