Has anyone out there created their own surf bag. I am looking to make a purchase of a new bag or possibly make my own. If anyone out there has created their own bag and cares to post it, that would be great. I have seen one made out of an antifreeze container bottom with modifications. Also saw a belt of tubes in Montauk one day ( but he looked like a suicde bomber with dynamite straped to himself) Looking for another project i will be land locked for a while will have some time to spare.

Let me know

Hey GF, this would be more appropriately posted in the surf bag building forum:) I have often thought about this but so far haven't come up with anything novel. I was just trying to duplicate the Canyon and Explorer bags with a few modifications, but can't find any nylon bags that are the right dimensions. The explorer bag will do for now I guess.

My Favorite Bag

Without a doubt I've found the White River tri-pac bag ( White River Fly Shops™ Fly Pack Vest - Tri-Pack
$24.99) to be the best I've used-DON'T LET THE NAME FOOL YOU-IT'S NOT A VEST. I like it because the pockets are big enough to fit large tubes with big lures in them, it's light, and it rides high on the chest (great for wading deep). I know it's a fly pac, but you'd never know to use it! Try it, you'll love it. Even if it's not what you had in mind, you might want to take a look at it anyway just for some ideas for making your own.

Anyone Ever Considered Using

An inexpensive "Fanny Pack"? Snap belt buckle in the back or side, zippered part in front or on side. Works great for me when I want to walk the beach looking for birds working the water, usually on the OBX of N.C. I usually carry one rod/reel, 6-12 different baits, chew of tobbacco (in zip-loc bag), small plastic grocery bag for a couple-three fish for dinner, and even a beer or two, or if the weather is a little nippy, a half pint of Jack fills the bill. Try it, you might like it.

One of the slickest surf bags I've run across belonged to a buddy of mine who bought a WWII canvas map case/bag at an Army Navy store in Albany, NY...it's got some kind of rubberized waterproofing that keeps it reasonably dry - he cut down to size about a dozen celluloid tubes that he hangs his plugs in & it's just the cat's nuts...

homemade surf bag

If you want the ultimate in cost free, I use an empty chinese food soup quart container and lid. I make a hinge from SS wire I've found on the beach to attach the lid to the container, and wrap duck tape (the only thing that costs anything!) around the outside. You cut a couple of slits to accomodate your surf belt, and there you go. The only drawback, it doesn't hold big plugs, and you can't store too much stuff, but it works as a quick standby. Matt.

I went to home depot and bought very thin pvc pipe with inch and a half diameter or two inch and cut them to about 8 inches long.Glued them together in a group of eight.(use water proof glue) Put them in a bag that I bought from an army and navy store.Works great.
