Given all the rain we've had this week, which species would be a better target this weekend if fishing in shallow waters along the Ct coast- esp Darien-Norwalk Islands? Does the water clarity make a difference to the fish?
It will definitely affect Summer flounder fishing, since they are sight feeders, and must see the bait swimming in proximity to ambush it. I've seen hot flounder bites (Summer and Southern) turn off overnight when the surf gets churned up and dirty.
Stripers use their lateral lines a lot more to locate prey than flatfish, but maybe someone else with more striper experience can give you odds.
For what it's worth, we took a stroll down to the beach yesterday (5/22) evening in Huntington Bay and the water was very clear. Even with a very stiff W/ NW going on after the rain.
