A few years ago I grabbed a book off of my grandfathers shelf. It was held together at the binding by duct tape and the pages were that aged yellow-gold, with the unmistakable old book smell. I believe it was from the 50's or 60's and called The Shining Tide(s). It was one of the greatest books I have ever read. It's a fiction story, that tracks the final migration of a 100 pound lineside,it's interactons with various fishers, and the way she has effected their lives.

Has anyone read this book? Anyone got some good striper stories or books they would recommend? Any lost classics? I've got about 2 months to kill.

While not a striper book, John Hersey's book "Blues" is great.

Chumface, the book you're talking about is one of the best I've read on the subject. It's called "The Shining Tides" by W.Brooks and it's tough to find. I happened to come across it at www.abebooks.com. Just enter the title in the search. I consider myself lucky to have gotten a perfect copy of this gem many years ago. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip guys!

I'm going to be outta commision for a few weeks and am looking to build a library to help pass the time. "The Shining Tides" sounded like an excellent addition. I was lucky to find a copy in excellent condition on Amazon for only $1.94!!!

Thanks again

books

i liked "the moon pulled up an acre of bass" by kaminsky also.i particularly liked the way he related his personal life and ups and downs to his fishing "escapes".also "stripers, an anglers anthology" edited by john waldman,a collection of bass fishing stories dating back to 1869 is interesting.

i liked striper surf by frank daignault. it's more of a "how to" than
a novel though.

What he said. Have had this book for 2yrs and re read it on a regular basis.
Daignault's new book "Eastern Tides" is a great life story of his early days. A great wintertime read with some cool old time pictures. "Trophy Striper" and "100 hot spots" (both also Frankie books) are on their way to me. Hope they get here soon. It's getting pretty cold in the tent next to the mailbox!
