I am not sure about the striped bass regulations.I know if you go on a party boat limit is two, on a private boat or from shore it is one.If I fish a party boat in montauk and keep two fish can I stop and surf fish and keep another?If I spend three days in montauk surf fishing can I keep three fish.Not looking to load up on fish but I am not sure how the regulations work.

My understanding is you are allowed ONE per day, UNLESS you are on a charterboat with the license for 2. NO you aren't allowed a "third" from the surf.

If you spend 3 days in Montauk surf fishing, you are allowed to keep 3 fish, BUT the first two better be "tagged" by an ECO, because if you get caught in posession of 3, fast talking just ain't enough!

Definately only 2 from the charter, if a reciept from the boat goes along with the fish, and that is the posetion limit. But like Flounder said I wouldnt try to keep more without a dated receipt.

i dont keep fish anyway but someone asked me. i have yet to see anyone actually check on catch or size of stripers. i see people with gaffs all the time at shinne****. what is the penalty if keep too many or too small. tnx.

penalty is stiff

Have heard the penalty for small or over the limit fish is five hundred per fish,If someone knows more please reply. Have seen dec officers checking several times out in Montauk and also on the bridges in wantagh. Love to see them writing summonses to the greedy people that keep over the limit and shorts.
