Would the storm we just had scare the fish into not eating or eating less? Or would it make them more active? Would they be going after what they'd usually go after or something else that maybe comes out during storms? Also, please tell which species it would affect and why. Also, if you could state the area (like sunken meadow, north shore, jones inlet, great south bay or whatever) I would really appreciate it.

Hi David,

Under most circumstances… most fish (fresh & salt) will feed before a storm! Why? Because it is a natural instinct that fish have (fear of not knowing when the next meal will be).

Obviously I am not encouraging you to venture out… Take precautions and use common sense! ;)

Lol, wasn't going to go DURING a storm, I thought I was going to go to sunken meadow tomorrow and bought some new tins and some wire leaders (now I'm broke except for 11cents) and now my parents say that we'll be near twin ponds (or lakes, the one by wantagh) so we're going freshwater fishing, oh well.

Going out after a storm is usually productive in areas w/surf conditions...clams usually get washed into the surf & break open providing a meal for stripers..This occurs alot on the south shore...
Al-what is the reason for using clams on the northshore in areas that do not have a big surf condition?? why so bass target clams on the Northshore? How would a clam break open in areas of the northshore?? I use clams on the northshore & seem to have some success, but bunker, sandworms & eels work best...(including artifical lures). I could never understand why we use clams on the northshore...do you have any advice...should these also be fished close to the bottom....i fish Portjeff...stonybrook..smithtown area..
thanks,,,Dr.Fish..do you have any advice also, since you fish these areas????is stratford shoal any good???
