I just opened a package of the 4" and noticed a black pastic sleeve on covering the hook. Do you remove the sleeve, or fish with it?

No way, these little buggers are hard to come by. Is it my ignorance or has anyone experienced the same?

Well, let me rephrase, these are not the covers that protect you from poking yourself, these covers start at the eye of the hook and run to about an 1/8" of the barb and are molded to the hook.

Come on, did you actually think I meant those clear protectors???
