Well Gebby this Stinger to me is a fancy name for a tandem rigged bait. It has been used for many years and called diffrent names. the rig above is a perfect example of diffrent types of Stinger(Tandem rigs)!
Also here is a link from an older post where some guys use a similar rig with a trebl hook which I do not prfer myself. Stinger rig post

Here is the rig I use with whole squid 6 to 10 inches long and large strip baits (fresh blue fish or sand shark)
I use a 8/0 to 9/0 long shank Mustad 92618 with a tandem adjustable 7/0 Gami Octopuss hook tied on 100lb Jenkai
Picture is a limit I got on the Marlin VI in Montauk last year guy on the right is the Capt of the Marlin VI
Eddie Beneducci.
(the pic is an 8X10)

Here is a clearer picture of my rig.
Why so heavy leader and big hooks
1-Big fluke got sharp teeth
2-Fishing broken bottom
3-party boat
4-don't use a net I lift the fish.

Lou you're right I forgot about Eddie's bad hand.

I have to say this about Sammy...

You are a "no-nonsense" fisherman, I tip my rod to you. You do know how to catch BIG fish, and your not afraid to catch them. More Power to you, great rigs too!!!! That's a great fluke catch on the Marlin! Catch'em up brother!

Gebby

you'er welcome
any time buddy.
Here's another tip You can get the best and perfect size California frozen squid from Pathmark in 3 and five lb boxs
for 4 or five bucks.
california squid is better and cheaper then the local stuff in the bait shops

Bill
They vary,from 6 inches to
some a foot thats complete length.
I open and go through the boxs and take some small and big.

Capt XXX
Thanks for the compliments but all I did was drop the bait down it took the skill and the knowledge of Capt Eddie Beneducci of the Marlin VI to ensure that the bait dropped near a hungry Fluke.

Sam843....i am trying to line up someone who will make the run from Montauk, to fish either the Elizabeth Islands (aka Cuttyhunk or Nashawena), or Martha Vineyard off of the Gay Heads area (aka Devils Bridge). This is late May early June fishing, and this trip from Montauk is the same distance as running to Nomans, just further north. Its incredible fishing from the few who had made the trip, and our own Crazy Al, fished with Gary Crosetti last year, and caught some halibut size fluke. Heres a pic of the jig they used when fishing for those big fluke.

By the way, anyone looking for top of the line swinging hook bucktails in sizes greater then 3oz (4,5,& 6), can contact me with the amount they need. Diamond Dan who spoke out our BASH makes these for fishing fluke off of Montauk and Orient. Whatever colors or size, he will make for you.

I believe that sam843's buddy, Capt Ed, discusses a similar run every so often. To the land of 16# doormats. A special trip for regulars...... Usually in the context of a new boat, but a couple seasons ago, he was setting up the trip, and then the engines blew :(
