just wondering if anyone fishes the bank?
this website seemes to be centered more toward the southern new england area.
with the boat that i have in port in boston harbor, my weekend trips are limited to stellwagen bank ,glouster, p-town or maybe wildcat knoll if the seas are right

Stellwagen Bank

I fish Stellwagen.
From March 20 through May 15, We come out of Green Hbr and from May 15- Oct.15 Scituate, and then Oct 15- Nov15 Green Hbr. Then we haul out. The boss goes to Florida and I winter in Scituate. (It is snowing out right now)

There are not many Stellwagen or offshore boats coming out of Boston because of the additional travel time and distance.

You must have a fast boat to go to Wildcat as I fish that area for cod/sharks during the summer-it is a hike from Boston. But if you just go on weekends it is not to bad; much shorter from Scituate or Green Hbr.

We are out everyday, weather permitting and that extra distance from Boston to the cod/shark fishing just wears you out eventually.

If you live on the south shore you should consider moving the boat down here.
Boston's attraction is great striped Bass fishing, but if you cod fish the south shore is shorter access.

I have the best of both worlds, I captain a smaller boat in Hingham for striper fishing when we get blown out offshore.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.- Tom

lot of fuel burned-but nothing for the barbeque

is this capt. tom d?{bigfish3}?

i have a 30 foot grady white w/t-250's and it sure is a hike out of boston.
it's about an hour to get to graves lighthouse from my slip in chealsea because of the no wake zone in the inner harbor .
its even worse since 9/11.

i usualy go to stellwagon on the nice weekends but allways get skunked on top of the bank.n/w corner is usualy where i start looking for life. i troll from first light till about 10:00 then usualy set up a slick for sharks.
ive only seen one shark on top of the bank{when we were troling of coarse}.
it seems any attempt at sharking on top of the bank just brings hoards of dogfish.
i have had good luck out further, maybe ten miles past the bank with sharks but thats a long way to go and after such a long ride if no action happens right away everyone just wants to go back home.
when you are sharkin are you right on top of the bank? or out further? or maybe in a little closer in the deep water before the bank?
i get a chance to go to nantucket about 5 times a year and down there its like fishing in a barrel.sharks everywhere.
im sick of wasting tons of fuel and two stroke oil only to catch one or two blue dogs or even worse--skunksville
any little tips yuo could offer would be greatly apprechiated

Hi FF
No I am not Tom D, although I know him personally, and see him regularly.

You have a good boat for fishing this area.

What town do you live in?
If you can get to Scituate or Green HBR in less than a half hour more of driving from your home you are better off down here.

You said it takes an hour to get to the Graves. From there you have about another 18 miles to the NW corner. From any mooring or slip in Scituate it is only a 17 mile trip. You could leave an hour later and be there at the same time. Same distance to the SW corner which is much farther for you from Boston. No more than 28 miles to some good consistent sharkfishing. You would save 2 hours a day traveling via boat.

Don't waste your time sharkfishing on the Bank; you are fishing the right area on the east side. If you stay in 250-300 feet of water you can jig for cod while sharking , and hookup occasionally on tuna and porbeagles on the bottom.

Do you know Capt. Dave W "Relentless" who is in Constitution Marina or Capt. Arty Delarusso who might be in your marina?

It is a long winter and maybe we could meet for breakfast someday and talk about fishing Mass. Bay. - Tom
