An observation on surf casting. Bass are called tide runners and we fish moving tides right? However we also fish stucture becasue thats were the Big Bass hang out. So when we are catching fish on structure are we catching fish that are passing through this cozy area or are we catching fish that are hanging out there while the bait gets swept through? Do the Bass move with the tide and as they come through good structure hang out and than move on when the bait moves on.

Tiderunners

Weakfish are called tiderunners. However to answer your question, bass do love structure. They use structure to rest and chase traped bait. I feel that bass do move with the tide, but if the feeding is good they may stay in the same area until the supply runs out.
I personally fish the tides when targeting striped bass.
Good Luck,

Bass and movement

Well this is a topic that has many different sides but I will try and give my opinion on it! First off Bass are eating machines! They are also quite smart when it comes to getting there meals. That is why the tide comes into play. The reason they feed on different times of the tide in different areas is all related to bait and structure and the food source. For example in the back bays you will find the bass in the cuts that flood on the incoming and wash out on the out going. Reason being the bait goes out the cuts and the bass will sit there and feed on it. Now in the ocean you have structure. The bass hang around these pieces of bottom for the food. Structure attracts bait fish and this is the prime area for the bass to feed when the tide is right. Now you also have holes where bass are caught it is the same principal but the bass will chase the bait fish into the shallower part of the wholes depending on tide to trap them for dinner! So it?s not as much as the bass swimming in the tide it?s more the bait that will get them moving! Also bass like to Hang around structure when not feeding. They will stay low to the bottom just waiting for the tide or bait to get them going. Hope this helps ?
