I Fish the Delaware every spring. You can expect the shad to enter the lower part of the river by March. I fish the New York side. From Port Jervis north to Skinners Falls.
My two most productive spots have been Pond Eddy and Skinners Falls. Both spots offer access from shore to deeper holes and channels. You can expect to see the first schools in these areas by the 2nd week of April. The run lasts through May. It can be very much hit and miss. As the fish migrate in seperate pods.
Shad darts from 1/8 ounce to 1/2 ounce depending on the current work well. Shad spoons will also work when the river is not running to fast. A 7' spinning rod matched to a freshwater reel capable of holding 200 yds of 8lb test is all you need.
Where I fish the states of NY & PA share the river. So a license from either state is honored by the local wardens.
Good Luck
