Today I was waxing the boat and when I was finished I wondered should I do the same thing to the kayak to protect it from the sunlight? Is it needed? Any product suggestions? I have a Hobie Quest.
I was up at Capt Kayaks grand opening this past Sat and Bob (SSGTFORCE) from this site told me about some stuff they had there that brought back the color of his and protected it. I can't remember the name of the stuff but I'm sure if you PM him he can give it to you.
Yes they have products for maintaining the color of the yak, nothing is better however then a good hose job after fishing. There is also maintenance thats should be done to the drive system on an annual basis.
Andy I think you are referring to 303 Aerospace Protectant. A quick application will leave your boat looking like new. It restores color and protects the finish from UV rays, plus the usual "crud" will be less likely to stick to your boat.
Hey Andy, The 303 Aerospace protectant brought my yum yum yellow Hobie kayak back to it's original color and definitely is a good UV protector. It makes your kayak look brand spanking new. Tight lines!

That was the stuff. You can pick it up at Capt Kayaks on River Road in Sayville if you're out that way and I'm sure he has some stock at his place on Dune Road in Quogue.
303 can be bought at auto stores and marine supply places.I've seen it in WalMart as well. Its not hard to find.I've been using it for 8 years or so off and on and it seems to be a good product. It will wear off once in the water but it does make the yak and canoe look new.
I'm due to buy some more
303 vs Armoral...
has been debatd alot and the kayaking community went thru the pros and cons when 303 first emerged onto the market. The consensus has been to steer clear of Armoral for boats and autos as well as kayaks.
303 is water based .Armorall is petroleum based.
Stick with the 303
I've been using the 303 for a few years now and believe it's the best product for rotomoulded kayaks and other toys. We treat our rental kayaks with the 303 twice a month and with the kayaks being used and stored in the sun everyday, keeps them looking great. I highly recommend the Aerospace 303.
