IVE BEEN A SPINNER FISHERMAN ALL MY LIFE AND ALWAYS A PENN CUSTOMER. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A SHIMANO CALCUTTA 400 SERIES CONV. AND A ST.CROIX BEN DOERR SURF ROD(8'6"). I FISH THE SURF AND I WANTED TO KNOW THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES WITHIN BOTH . I HAVE ADJUSTED TO THE CALCUTTA WITH THE LURES BUT STILL WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS IS A GOOD SYSTEM TO TACKLE THOSE COWS AND BLUES.
(P.S-I ALMOST BOUGHT A G.LOOMIS ROD-DID I MAKE A GOOD CHOICE WITH THE ST. CROIX?)

ed1mik,
I got the same setup, can't say there is any downside to this combo. You should be able to cast an amazing distance & feel anything that nudges whatever you're offering. The Loomis rod may be a bit lighter but then it would have cost you about another $60-$100 over the Ben Doerr. I dont think you will have any regrets.
Good luck.
