Since we don't have a South Shore Fishing forum I am putting this here. There's a thread going on in the NS forum about 2008 Raft Ups. I don't want to steal his thunder but Pablo posted proposing a Raft Up for the South Shore folks. I have to admit that I've always wondered why the South Shore guys never had one of these.

Pablo mentioned Great Gunn as a possible location and it can be accessed by boat and 4x4 for the surf clan, though I'm not sure how close to the bayside you can get with the trucks.

Anyone game for something like this?? Maybe have alternate location suggestions?? (I vote for Demo LOL)

Let's hear it..........

HGreat gunn bad idea for the 4x4 crowd it's a 6 mile drive and open only during certain times of the year, lately not open between June and September for the erosion and piping plovers.

The Cupsogue side of Moriches would be better , but that inlet is always a zoo..

Back side of Democrat Point would be a big

A lot of us raft up often on the South Shore. It just hasn't been posted on a board. Two places that come to mind is Davis Park which is also accessible by ferry. There is also a playground for the kids, snack bar, and the Casino for dinner. The other place is Watchhill. That place is a little more protected from traffic. There also is a sand bar there that you can anchor in the four foot drop off and get out in 1 foot of water. Both places are accessible by ferry and centrally located for people coming from east and west.

Demo and Watch Hill are both great spots. Either would be a good time.

Watch Hill is a boat only access site and Demo can be reached by both boat and 4x4.

The Sore Thumb has boat and beach access as well and provides a nice calm cove to anchor in.

My 2 cents.

I do like latty's Ideas, "Two places that come to mind is Davis Park which is also accessible by ferry. There is also a playground for the kids, snack bar, and the Casino for dinner. The other place is Watchhill"
I think this would be perfect. Both places are accessible by ferry and centrally located. Good Ideas Craig

Do we need to reserve any spots or anything at Davis? I was only there a year ago with the my sons school trip. We pretty much had the whole place to our selfs it was a weekday in June water was still cold lets shoot for July but lets not make it when there's all those fish tourtaments. I don't want people saying I would llove to come but the BIG BLUE FISH THING is that day or some Snapper Derby lol You guys know what I mean.

Last I was there you can't reserve a spot at Davis or Watch Hill. 1 spot per registartion.

First come first in.

Plus with Davis you need to be a Town Of Crook~haven resident otherwise slips are like triple the price.

Watch Hill is the Natioanl Sea Shore so rates are the same for all.

Spent 5 years there when I was out of Patchouge.

There is one place just west of Davis, forget the name, no docks, everything is on a hook but very shallow water. You can walk into the beach and it does have a bathroom.

Don't let the guys in the surf forum see this. Demo and Sore Thumb are state parks for FISHING ONLY. Doesn't mean everyone isn't out there during the summer beaching it up, but technically they don't belong there. Neither do the boats. Don't know why people can't have fun at the beach in their truck or boat, and the Dept seems to look the other way, but just an FYI.

The spot Baywatch is referring to may be Talisman. My cousins go there all the time and rave about it. I have not been there as yet but they love. I can do any of the locations mentioned so far.

LIRI, I would love to see the Thumb as well but I'm trying to be as fair to the Moriches crowd as they were to the FI boys by considering moving west of the bridge. :)

That's the place, narrow channel going in and anchor right off it.

Lots of people float there coolers into the beach or use samll inflatables to set everything up on the beach. Over the dune and into the ocean.

Some good claming around that area also or at least there used to be.

Too late

Area 1 is not a fishing only zone actually...(long story but you can "hang" there as this was a Babylon only beach at one time, fishing was not a prerequisite).. and a boat can anchor anywhere below the high tide mark, and I'll have a pole in the water anyway.

The ferry idea will keep me from not going, as my days of carrying coolers and kids toys, umbrellas and chairs, BBQ's and food are LONG over..
