Waited a long time for a night like this.Went to causeway at sunset, got some fresh bunker, went to a local beach and met some surf rats on their way out. Their reports weren;'t great, a few blues one gent told me and that was it.Hit the surf anyway. By 8 Another five minutes went by and nothing. Then both poles, almost at the same time had line screaming out. I went to the pole that was down the furthest.Tightened the drag probably too much and set the hook and the line snapped.Maybe a big blue,I'll never know.Jumped to the other pole, same thing, tightened down, set the hook and fought in a nice bass at 34 inches.Had to let go.This was just the biggining. For the next hour,it was the same.Reset one pole, cast out, fish on the other. It was amazing. Then it happened. On a bunker head,I was down to three peices of bait left. I casted out the bunker head far and to left away from the other pole.Just got it into the holder and vrrooommm.Line screaming out. ran over, tightened down, set the hook and the fight was on.This fish went east at first and I followed it, then west.Too close to the other pole,I had to cut my own line. After a good five minute fight,I finally saw it,at least 44 inches and probably my first and only cow bass over thirty pounds. What a sight.I grabbed it behind the gill and released the circle which was perfect in the corner of the mouth.Perfect fish splashed and swam away. Fished with the last pole for the next twenty minutes and nothing.Called it quits, but what a nigh! I will never forget.I kinda regret keeping that first bass, but at the time I didnt know what I was instore for. Heres the thing though, out of all the conditions that we want to catch fish,SSE - SSW wind, new moon, rough surf, fresh bait and more, bottom line though, you just never know. To the gent that gave me some fresh bunker on his way out, thank you sir. I sincerely hope that all surf rats can have a night like this. I'll never forget it. Good luck all.
