The winter Flounder season is nearly over, and I haven't seen a single post about Flounder fishing.

Being a 1st year fisherman, I should would like to try my luck at Flounder fishing before the season ends Nov 30th. Anyone care to share some Flounder spots in Suffolk for us Surf rats.

Member,

That dude was me. My son caught one flounder that day. The next few trips to Cedar beach netted not a single fish or even a bite. I stopped by Ralphs fishing station and they said that there hasn't been any action there for a while.

Don't bother even trying. Flounder Fishing from a boat with a lot of chum is an iffy proposition at best, and thats in the spring which is supposed to be the best time to catch flounder. If you really insist on trying, as the water cools down, the flounder move into the back of the local canals for the winter. Every spring, the first place you catch flounder is way up in the back of the canals. You may want to give places like the canals in Seaford, Massapequa, or Baldwin a try. The problem is finding a spot where you are allowed to fish.

Being that you have completed your first season fishing.....i can now let you in on a little secret.
there is no such thing as a Flounder.....they are the proverbial "snipe" of the fishing clan.

Or at least now they are.

Flounder....

Like it was said, try the canals. Find the deeper spots at the head of the canal. I have a few spots that i have been fishing since i was a kid. Always a few fat flounder. They are all full of roe, and i wont keep any under 13 inches.I put the two larger fish on the scale at Sunrise B&T. I have a few pictures of the flounder, that i will post as soon as i get them developed. Good luck to all.......
