mine was good but too short. I figure we cought over 500 fluke with about 25 keepers to 8 pounds. Had a lot of the fish in the 19-10.5 inch range. there was a couple of slow weeks but it really heated back up about a month ago.

Mine was fair. I didn't fish as much as I have in the past. The days I was out were never a bust, but I always missed the big bite by a day or two.

I liked the size of the fish we were catching. Keep the size at 19" or larger.

We had a great fluke season up until last week, now the fish are moving out and going to be tougher to find. Days o 7 fish per man were relatively common even with the 20-inch limit. Maybe next week I can catch them off the south end of Block Island?

I thought it was a great season. Admittedly, not all that many keepers but I usually ended up taking home fish. I got used to the 20.5 size limit but did find it hard to send back those 19.5 inchers when things were slow. I kept it honest though. Ed

Fluke season, what fluke season? It was mediocre at best. Like everyone else, caught a lot kept a little. Even though I'm in Jersey and the size is 18", there was a lot of 17-1/2" out there and they were released.

Anyway, I hope they keep their promise of lengthening the season for next year. They should also implement a slot rule to boot..

Fluke fishing for me was awesome always limited out & always had decent size fish. Alot of 6 Lb fish this year with a few in the 8 Lb range. I would of loved to get out more times than I did, but still always limited out. need to extend the season to Sept 15-30th because there still is a ton of fish there just waiting for an easy meal & some nice size to them.
As far as the Regs go the size limit should be 20" with a 6 bag limit

I think between 19 and 20" should be a legal fish be we all know right after that all the fish we catch will be between 17 and 18". Just like they were all 13" when a legal fluke used to be 14". Obviously somthing is working.

We made 8 trips - about average for a season.
More than 700 fish caught; 43 keepers over 20.5"; largest 8.5 lbs - 9 fish over 5 lbs.
Now if it were an 18" size limit, we would have had over 300 keepers.
I hope the size drops to whatever NJ is - I hate fishing next to NJ boats in Ambrose Channel and throwing back buckets full of 19" & 20" fish, that they are pulling in and keeping.

I found fluke fishing to be mediocre this year in the Western Sound.
Seems like we were always waiting for fish to move in from the east.
Most days we averaged one keeper per man and, except for early in the season, not that many shorts.
We had one weekend where things busted open and a limit was possible.

Jamaica Bay Skiff Action

I fish exclusively in Jamaica Bay and found the season to be below average compared to previous years..Got out around ten times and no real big fish this year.. still looking for my ten pounder and didnt come close this year.. had half a dozen fish over 5 lbs with the biggest 7 and a half...i would say Average day for me was A dozen or so shorts with 1 or 2 keepers mixed in..and the searobins were a major p.e.t.a this year.. (especially on my teaser rigs) This forced me to switch to bigger baits more often than i like to.. and the biguns just werent pletnfiul enough.. that pretty much sums it up.. heres a few pics from my skiff rental trips.. Captain LunA's Marina.. (Right next to Angler II)

Fluking in the mid sound didn't start until mid July and even then it was only about 2 keepers per "my boat". The ocean was the place to fish with about 3.5 keepers per "my boat". On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this past season a 4.

Like Artie, I fish out of the Jamaica Bay area. The bay water was a huge disappointment this season so we were forced to fish outside on about 95% of our trips. The quantity of nice fish 18-20" was excellent. But putting a limit on the boat was difficult. The bigger fish did not make a great showing like they did in 2006 when we had numerous 10 plus fish.

Not sure if the water clarity was a factor but I can tell you that the water clarity in 2006 was much better (now that might be a coincidence). I tend to think water clarity is VERY important when it comes to success and failure with fishing for fluke.

Now we wait 'til next year to see how that shakes out. Don't let anyone tell ya that fluke are in trouble. It just 'aint so!
