ive see plenty of snappers in breezy, chasing small spering. I threw a 1/4 ounce silver kastmaster at them with no results! Would it help to use a different lure? or mayb a lighter one? Their just not biting. When are they gona start!??
Fluke, I admire your persistence on this snapper matter. But......patience is a virtue...... let them grom a little, and my feeling is there is just to much bait fish around, I have even had your problem with bluefish this year.
Try small hooks tiped with sand worm or try small killies on these hooks. Right now there is no need for them to be agressive towards the tins. Give it some time they'll bite..
The best thing to use for them when they are small is the Snapper Popper. I have had no problem getting as many snappers as I want with that. When they get a little larger, small tins will work fine.
I personally prefer using a Sabiki rig to catch snappers for fluke bait. I agree they aren't all that aggressive this year, but that's probably due to the abundance of baitfish in the water...which is a good thing. If you're looking to catch them as bait, try using a Sabiki rig and when you hook one don't reel it in, keep it in the water and other snappers will be attracted to the commotion and you'll get multiple fish hooked.
yestrday i saw snapper jump out of the water and i cast small spoon and i caught 6 inch also i lost alot of snapper becuase they had small mouth. I throw back 6' inch snapper...good luck
