Just the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth...

You can read the whole story here.

And by the way, what about the new story about those little crabs snuck in by a cab driver? It's getting a little scary, it seems that there are so many destructive species being unnaturally introduced into our ecosystem. In many cases it gets so out of hand that it's determined that the foreign species cannot be removed and the focus has to be shifted to how to best limit the destruction that they might cause.

I happen to be a very serious aquarist and so know quite a bit about snakeheads, genus "channa," all of which inhabit parts of asia. There are many species, the largest of which can grow to four feet. They are very hardy and aggressive, eating virtually anything. They also have the ability to "walk" on the pectoral find for short distances. They are a common aquarium fish, and people in China also eat them. If you want more information, try an aquarium site like www.fishprofiles.com or www.aquariumfish.net, and look for red snakeheads (Channa micropeltes), which are the most common species in aquariums. Hope I helped,
willy g.

They are considered excellent game as well as food fish in asia...spectacular leaps etc.. I'd like to catch one. I think the red snakehead is more tropical than the northern snakeheads in the news. I had a red in my tank and it grew at a great rate as it ate every other fish in the tank even though it started out the smallest (tough fish like oscars, jack dempsey, pea**** bass etc.). I can't see them being anymore ferocious than any members of the pike family. Pike don't "walk" though.
These fish have also wreaked havoc w/ tilapia farmers... a few fish systematically wiping out their stock pool by pool in SE Asia.
