Opening day at the bridge and East Bellport Bay . Caught the last 2 hrs of the outgoing, slack and 2 hrs of incoming. Wind 5mph NW til tide change, then 10 mph SW (and cold)for incoming. Water temp. 42 - 44 (at 2:30) degrees. Fresh mussels for chum and bait with sandworms also ($7/doz - price is nuts, I'll be digging my own again this year - they also wanted $5 for 1/2 dozen bloods which I skipped). Rosie was out with about 10 fares and about 1/2 dozen other boats and same # of anglers from shore. Not one flattie seen, no bent rods. Did mark herring on ff at assorted times and saw one airborne (maybe that seal chased it up - would like to think a striper did but its a little early). Nice day to be on water with good company, fine cigars and drink. From reports posted, doesn't seem like there was much going on anywhere around the Island.
Bad day on the water is always better than any day on land.
