Does anybody know who has a Sibiki rig bait rod blank
The kind where you can reel the sibiki rig right into the rod it self
I'd like to make my own rather then to buy a factory rod

sabiki rig

Tog Pro you have a problem the designer has more patterns on the rods then you can believe and jealously guards them. I think they are made by Gator Glass for him and have never seen them offered for sale.

Bait fishing with sabikis is big down south where you can pay $100 for a dozen baits during tournament season. People use them here for snapper blues, shad and herring.

There are potentially 2 types of blanks being discussed here.

HD duty parabolic setup, to be fished with a very heavy weight by a commercial guy, who probably deadsticks a bunch at one time and reels them in as rods load up. If you are targeting jacks for bait, you can imagine that 3 or 4 on each outfit times 5 outfits can cause problems.

Or a recreational setup. Sabikis tangle badly enough that most guys throw them away after one use. They catch anything and everything including body parts. There are rods made with no guides, where you reel the whole sabiki into the blank. They have a flared tip.

Hi John,

I called mudhole, spoke with a nice gentleman, he will find out what blank is used and when they will have them in stock. He said he thinks they take an 11' surf blank and cut the tip back to fit the special tip fitting. It covers the tip opening and the line with hooks on it slide over it into the blank. This way the hooks are stowed. The article said there ia a hole in front of the reel for the special line to go into the blank and come out the tip. They don't epoxy the butt cap on so it can be removed the hose out the inside of the blank.

One site said you install the grips on the tip end and a special piece fits over the butt which is now the tip. The Mudhole guy said the rod is built the normal way. Conflicting stories. I have to get to the bottom of this.

This sounds like a great conversation piece when I do shows or speaking gigs.

Cap the one I have is new and has a gimball on the butt end, the older ones were just for convential reels the new ones can use a spinning reel just in front of the seat is a guide about a size 20 in front of that towards the tip is a guide similar to the single ft oval guides that is built into the blank the line passes thru the guide into the blank and out the tip, as I said the guy who makes them has a jealousy guarded pattern on the design even has the pattern number on each rod. I believe I was informed that the blanks were made for him only although they may make a similar model for public use. The rods are really not finished very well each has some imperfections near the guides. You do get a piece of 200lb mono to make the passage easier for rigging it up.

I was thinking if I can get the old Diawa linear line Through blank factory poles or even a blank I can cut back the tip and put on the bell like fixure that the Sabiki bait poles have.

Hi,

Thanks for posting that web site. I enjoyed reading it. It had whetted my curiosity.

Am having trouble finding where I can get the blank and tip attachment. I was told the tip attachment is tied up in litigation, patent rights.

That rod would make a great "whats that" at meetings. We could use it for herring fishing and even snapper fishing on Long Island,NY. I probably would not get any orders for one BUT who knows if you don't try.

Thanks again,
