Ugh... was totally disgusted last night when I discovered NYS blackfishing will be closed after April 30th. So what does that leave us to fish for in MAY ??? Stripers & the rare winter flounder?? Does that mean we will all be fishing and targetting one species ?? Sure some of us will be going after that infamously rare spotted vampire croaker fish. After we all get tired of bassing are we going to crowd each other for fluke during whatever 30 or 50 day season they give us? So that I can complain guiltfree I will join CCA/RFA or whatever organization is pulling for our cause. Or perhaps one can advise how hard it is to get any sort of a pinhooker license so that one can take a fish home for their family to enjoy. The picture of gloom for our fisheries that the enviros and gov't agencies is painting is being blown way out of proportion. I think we will all witness a lot of filet & release activity this year.... If it gets any worse there may be a 22' Revenge for sale in the near future.

The way I see it there is not much one can fish for in the LI Sound anymore.

MAN!!! THAT SUCKS!! been down here in FL for 7 month's [for good] and had heard about the coming regulations before i left but never thought it would be this rediculous.this along with the recession that we're not in ,the price of fuel and everything else is gonna be a death sentence for party boats,b&t shops and the entire fishing industry in the northeast. its not much better down here so.....dont bother moving here

Theres plent to fish for in L.I. sound

Not much catching

but plenty to fish for

.
You can serch for those huge schools of Mackeral. oops forgot they no longer exist.
You can hunt for the elusive flounder. Extremely elusive.
You can Porgie fish. Well maby, not sure yet.
You can pray that the blues make an early apperance.
You can hunt for that elesuive 20 1/2" keeper fluke. I am sure that some will be caught.

All I can say is if the morons who insist on keeping every single fish they catch don't control themselves, the government will do it for them.

Catch and release, keep one fish to eat fresh, and you'll get your blackfish season back.....and flounder......and mackeral......and tuna......and weakfish......and every other species that is plundered and wasted.

You are exactly right Capt. Bill. WHy does each guy on a party boat need a cooler FULL of Blackfish or Cod? How many of them get thrown out or freezer burned beyond recognition (is that the chicken?).

Just curious as to why some people always assume that LEGALLY kept fish is automatically going to get "freezer burn" or "thrown out" ( if you can't tell the difference between frozen chicken and fish you need to get your eyes examined)?

And, 4 tog aren't exactly a "cooler full", unless you use one of those tiny Playmates as a fish cooler.

fish out of ct.......... the regs are a little better. but even 4 black fish a day is enough to feed a family. or take more people fishing if you want more fish. the date closing is early but it could be closed all year so i guess it could get worse.

Yeah I have no problem with the 4 fish limit for me. However a couple of my friends might have to be pushed to do a charter for 4 fish. I have never fished for spring blacks, only in the fall. I did not get out much this past fall so I want to make up for it this spring.

if you are doing a charter for blacks you could always get your 4 fish then have the capt. go find some other fish like bassbad blues or scup. there is always options.

Freddie, I plan on being out opening day as long as my access permit is renewed in time. The DEC said they never received my renewal form so I had to overnight. They say it should be online in less then 2 weeks. Opening day will be around 10 days so my fingers are crossed. I'll shoot you an pm later in the week.

Fishing Reg's!!!!

Im sooooooooo sick of the fishing reg's and all the doom & gloom that goes along with it. I had a night mare I was fluke fishing on a party boat in the not so distant future, it was early 2010, I caught a 12lb doormat!! The mate screemed hurry! Hurry! take a picture then it has to go back because it's a short!

Fishing Regs? I was a teen in the 60's, what ever happened to "protests"?? God forbid if someone tried to take away someones rights back then! The people who make these reg's are landlubber pencil pushers who get sunburned after 10 seconds of direct sun exposure. Get up off yer arse's and organize not one but many protestes! You want to save your right to fish? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!
