What are everyone's views on using short vs. long rods for kayak fishing?
I prefer a 5'10" Ugly Stik, because the tip of the rod is always wellwithin my reach so I can clear tip-snags, etc.
I've used the short Stik to catch blues, stripers, and bonito off Monomoy Island on Cape Cod, and spring cod off Cape Ann.
I also like the Stik because it's so whippy: it makes every fish, even little mackerel, feel HUGE.
What do you all have to say about rod lengths?
Finally, another advantage of a short rod is how easily it can be stored on the foredeck, without overhang.
