Does anyone know where I can get info on when the Shinne**** Inlet locks are Closed????
I tried calling a number off the net but no one answers...

I don't remember the details but if you do a search the info has been posted here in the past.

Shinne**** locks close 3:30 before high tide at Sandy Hook and open 2:30 before. Since Newsday doesn't give us Sandy Hook, we can use Fire Island Inlet. On FI Inlet the locks close approximately 3hours before high tide and open approximately 3 hours after high tide. (Note: we are NOT talking about high water slack, but about high TIDE)

The locks close 3 1/2 hours before the high tide at Sandy Hook, NJ

They open 2 1/2 hours after the same tide at Sandy Hook, NJ..

To the minute, you can almost set your clock to it.

good luck, summer brings out too much boat traffic though, permits available for night parking, which I highly recommend this time of year. seems quite a few boaters don't understand the tide and start stacking up for a manual opening and it gets to be a zoo sometimes.

Much nicer in the early spring and fall with decreased boat traffic. These days though, it's a night game for sure until they start shrink wrapping those boats again.

Although the info is Sandy Hook NJ, the lock times follow the NJ times.. almost to the minute.

So the High Tide at Sandy is 3:28 today, which means the locks at Shinne**** would close at 12:00pm???

I know, i know, I do have Brain damage....

Closed locks good for Flounder, Fluke, Porgies ,Sanppers and such..

Open locks are when the big bass come through and setup near the whirlpools..

Weakfish for me has been the first 10-15 mins when the gates close..

Sandy Hook NJ is one of the principal tidal stations ont he east coast. It is a "reference station" which means that tide charts for other non-reference stations are based on the Sandy Hook tides. That's why the Shinne**** locks follow the Sandy Hook tidal schedule.
