This is a hands-on opening day report from yours truly at the Shinne**** canal.

With the locks closing at 5:30am?we arrived around midnight to reserve our favorite spots. Interesting enough, despite the weatherman?s rain day prediction, by 2:30am I noticed that most of the best spots were occupied by the early sharpies.

Bottom line is that this year?s opening day was considered to be S L O W, which was due to the mild winter we had. Non the less, a few of us managed a few flatties but in general, the fishing was not to the Shinne**** expectations.

In our group, the average bag was 2-4 keepers and yours truly nailed 6 keepers out of 17 shorties. Largest was 14 ½? and I also noticed a few impressive catches along our sides. I also heard that there was a monster 5 lbs. culled just South of the canal on the Shinne**** Star boat.

All in all, the place was absolutely packed with hardy fishers and even the East of the locks was packed.

Just wondering, how many of you ventured out at the Shinne**** locks... and how many were flounder fishing at other locations?

Hi Greggie,
I arrived at Shinne**** Canal at 12:10AM and there were 8 other vehicles already there!
Fortunately one of my favorite holes was still available but by 2:30am most of the best spots were accounted for. I was fishing just North of you about 75 yards. ;)
