In listening to one of the Shimano reps at the show at Rockland this weekend. His oponion,if price was not a factor that the Trinidad TN30 is one of the best all around reels on the market. Weather you are cod fishing, grouper fishing or even tuna fishing. West coast guys love it for tuna and bottom fishing. With the high gear ratio of 6.2.1 do you think he was exagerating a little in regards to this reels overall capabilities?

My $0.02......absolutely no exaggeration!! I have 2 30's and 2 14's, and have put all through the paces. These are solid reels. The only drawback on the 30's-50's is the line capacity. If you're adding them to a spread, be mindful that they're not Tiagras. The high speed retrieve is a great tool to have to head those fish off that swim back to the wreck.

I tried one this past weekend for offshore seabass fishing in about 220 feet of water. In fact, I wanted to compare it to my Accurate Boss Magnum 665H. I thought it would lock up or bog down given the 6.2:1 gearing, but it didn't. In fact, I found it very smooth and comfortable. I actually preferred it to my Accurate.

great reel for everything except cod fishing I have 2 use mainly for jiging tuna
Tried them for cod the ratio is too high can't crank when you got a big or double on.
If you could bring the ratio down to 4 or 3 to one it would be a great cod jigging reel
