Would the following compre rods be suitable for light inshore fishing in about 20' of water for flounder: 6'6" 8-17 line extra fast action. A similar rod is rated fast action. Is one more appropriate? What is the actual difference between these actions? Thanks for the help.

Hi.

I am not familiar with these rods. However the specs you list seem to be fine for shallow water flounder/fluke.

Extra fast action = during a cast the top 1/4 of the rod flexes.

Fast action = during a cast the top 1/3 of the rod flexes.

This relates to how much of the rod flexes under a load. Below the flex is the stiff part of the rod, no flex. How thick the wall determines the amount of lifting power the rod has.
