hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows if the Ocean Eagle is still going out at all. last sat i went out to find only one boat going for blackfish(not the OE) and i had a pretty lousy time. no live crabs in all of sheepshead bay, too, word is there is a "crab shortage". the conditions were as nice as they get, im not sure any swells were over 1' all day, and the water was smoking as far as the eye could see, so why would they not have gone?
i know a lot of boats pack up for the winter, and i heard a rumor that this winter (because we're expecting a cold one) the entire fleet will shut down by feb. any truth to this? anyone know what the Ocean Eagle's plans for winter are or how i can find out if they are going out sunday?

I think they may be done. I spoke with Glenn (actually we drove next to each other by the MAll) adn he thinks they may shut it down. I'm not 100% though. The phone numbers listed for the OE aren't checked, or do not work or something, so don't bother. Send EC a PM and see if he knows.

yea, i know those #s in the ad and on the card are no help. it didn't look like they were shut down for the season, coolers and gaffs were still lashed to the benches and rails. just weren't going out that day.
id still like to go out on any boat going, im just limited to places accessable by public transportation (sheepshead bay) and its getting real tough to find a boat going out.

The reason for a lack of boats sailing is generally the result of a lack of customers. Some party boats will sail into a gale storm without any bait if there is a crowd at the dock screaming to be taken out.

Lack of customers

I was on that boat w/ nycman on Saturday - there were about 27 fares - I've been on boats half as crowded that still went out. Most of the people I spoke to said thay had come for the OE, so I think they'd still have business if they lit up. One guy in the cabin looks at me and says "Man, it's so cold out I thought I'd have the boat all to myself!" -that's exactly what we all thought!
Too bad all the boats are stopping, because I don't mind the cold as much as I mind not fishing.
