hey folks,
my dad said to me "willy, because we just did an expensive florida keys trip, for march we're doing something cheap and short." I was thinking of maybe trying lake fork bass fishing for a few days, but he, being a native new yorker, thought that it might be fun to go to sheepsheads bay, so i was wondering: what sorts of fishing opportunities are available there in march?
Thanks,

March this year will probably not worth it to be honest with you they Start Flounder fishing on the 15 but the way this winter is going it most probably wont be worth your time because of cold wheather but way back in the canals can be productive if you can get access to a pier depending on how cold Febuary is will determine how good the offshore fishing will be and the outflow of ice from the Hudson
river if it's not bad March can be good
for Blackfish but make sure you find out about the icing conditions beforehand if anybody is doing long range Sea Bass trips I know the Jamaca
from Breille NJ does it sometimes boats from the bay do them they are very worthwhile you will definately get the biggest Sea Bass on those trips pool
fish usually gets to be about 6 to 7 lbs. I know the Capt. Lou from Freeport
is doing now but call them for a schedule

Gotta agree with skatemaster. Sheepshead bay isn't exactly a vacation destination. Aside from anything else, the motel clerks wouldn't know how to deal with guests who wanted to stay for the WHOLE night!!

I'm picturing staying in Jade East for week on vacation :) Nothing wrong with being an NYC tourist. Any fishing is bonus.

Could stay in Atlantic Highlands. There are a few partyboats who will be floundering and a ferry to Manhattan. Definitely cheaper than staying in NYC.

Personally, I'd still hop on a cheap flight to FL.

steelhead

Codfisha15- listen to the others, sheepshead bay is not a vacation spot.
montauk would be a much better choice from all aspects.
although in march it will be a little early for good fishing.

my suggestion is STEELHEAD in upstate new york. the salmon river area has plenty of rivers and streams to fish for steelhead.
they are a blast to catch and put up a great fight. fishing is done with lite tackle, usually 6-12 pound test.

you can hire a drift boat and guide for $150-250 for the day or fish from the shoreline. the drift boats are usually heated and it is perfect for 2 people to fish from.
lodging in the area is plentyful and cheap at this time of the year.

you can also ski, snow mobile and hunt in the area as well.
a lot nicer scenery than sheepshead bay too. ;)
