Thanks for the pictures - I wasn't really sure what they looked like myself.

I've managed to take a few shade using a Deadly Dick as well.

I catch alot of shad also on my teaser rigs when fishing for stripe bass.
They'll also hit Bucktails as well but
I catch alot more on teasers.
Last year I caught some monster shad!
Hope this season is just as good or better.
I threw all my shad back last year but
just might keep a few to fish with bait this year.

SHAD DARTS

Your welcome. In my experience with shad anything attractive with a SMALL hook should work. If your getting bumped a lot with no hookups than downsize the hook.

They are a lot of fun on ultra-light tackle. A light flyrod would be fun also.

HAPPY FISHING

I have never seen anyone using shad darts on the Island, but in the Delaware River, I've witnessed guys shoulder to shoulder, Montaukesque, throwing nothing but these little guys...I didn't get in on the action but man, these guys lived to get in on the brief shad run up there. Don't know if they are hickories or what.

I don't make enough fishing posts...

So here goes nothing.

Go out buy some shad darts. Connect it to your line with a double surgeons not.

The wiggle of a shad dart is tight so any knots like a palomar will restrict it more.

Another lure I have a lot of success with is the Fin-S fish by Lunker City. The small ones on a 1/16oz jighead. When the shad are busting minnows, a lot of times, you'll find schoolie bass mixed in and they are much more willing to hit the Fin-S although I have nailed a few on shad darts.

Whatever you do, use light wire hooks. Shad have sensitive mouths so you want a hook that will penetrate well but the thicker hooks rip too much and result in too many lost fish.

Put a small kastmaster on the end of a sabiki rig and cast it out-works great. Shad make great bait for stripers. They are active and live forever on a hook. We got a bunch of big fish of RI last year with them. Saw a 35 pounder inhale one right at the surface-what a rush!

Love shad darts

jfish:

I was the guy who mentioned the shad darts. My old friend Leo turned me on to shad fishing with shad darts 2 years ago. I have been loving it ever since. Ralph gave you nice pics. Take all the hair off and put on a white 1" grub on the hook, this I have found is by far the most productive. Now I catch stripers on that setup with my 6' rod. I caught a 25" bass on that setup at Smiths Point. J&H usually carries them in the 3/8 oz. size or Gags Grabber has them also.

Have fun!
