The Twins and Mets have agreed to a deal that would send two-time Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana to New York in exchange for four prospects, according to published reports, the first one by USA Today, on Tuesday.
The deal is contingent on the Mets and Santana reaching an agreement on a six-or-seven year contract extension. Indications are that Santana is seeking a deal worth close to $150 million dollars. The Mets have been granted a 48-to-72 hour window to negotiate the extension and Santana is expected to waive his no-trade clause if an agreement is reached. The left-hander must also pass a physical.

According to the report, the four prospects that that Twins would be receiving in the deal are outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitchers Phil Humber, Deolis Guerra and Kevin Mulvey.

One notable name that was not included in the deal was the Mets' top prospect, outfielder Fernando Martinez. Earlier reports had been that the Twins were asking for Martinez in order to complete the deal.

"We are hoping to bring some finality to this soon but I have nothing to report yet," Twins general manager Bill Smith said.

We should get some money from both the SOX and the Yankees for preventing Johan from going to either team.

This is a great deal. For whatever reason, everyone but The Mets backed off of the trade and Minnesota had to take less than they wanted, which at first was Martinez & Reyes. The Mets also held onto Pelfrey. Now my only worry is not agreeing to a contract with Santana. Give him whatever he wants, for as long as he wants. He's the best pitcher in baseball, in his prime, AND he's switching to the National League. It's almost a guarantee that he'll win 20 games with thier lineup several times. Get it done Omar!

You mean you should be paying the Yanks and the ******* for laying low cause they backed off allowing the Mets to make such a good deal.
Good for the Mets.

Santana had a subpar season in 2007, going 15-13. He lost seven of his last 11 decisions as his ERA rose from 2.60 to 3.33 ERA, his highest since 2001, and he allowed a career-high 33 homers - the most in the AL.

He has been less successful in the playoffs, going 1-3 with a 3.97 ERA

Luckily, the players involved were only prospects, but this guy will demand 20 million + a season....

The NJ Giants also have no chance sorry.
