Hi Folks,
I'm looking into putting together a light cod setup - maybe use for blackfish as well - and I'm a little torn between the torium 14 and the new saltist 20H. I like the saltist 30T's, but didn't like the high speed version (30TH). I felt there was a loss in torque with the higher speed retrieve (6.4:1 vs 4.9:1). The saltist 20 only comes in a higher speed version, but it's a little slower (6.1:1) and the line retrieved per crank is about the same as the non-high speed saltists (about 36", which is the same on the torium 14). The toriums, which I have little experience with, are all in the higher speed range. Prices are similar, although I think I can get the saltist for a bit less (~$15) less than the torium. Any advice?

Thanks,
Pat

I have both the Torium 20 and the Saltist 20. I heavily prefer the Saltist. When I go bottom fishing, I will take the Torium as a back-up to the Saltist. I find that the Torium requires much more effort to bring weight up from the bottom.

That being said, I really like the Torium for striper and blue fishing and I have caught a few 60 - 75 pound yellowfin on it as well.

Tight lines.
