Hi folks I just picked up a few boat rods with penn reels at a yard sale. The reels cleaned up Ok but the rods really need some work. Most are ready for the trash can, a couple have a nice feel to them but are in pretty nasty shape the finish on them is badly chipped and pitted, Can they be salvaged and if so how. Thanks in advance ...Bob

Can you post a pic ? I redo quite a few partyboat rental rods, and basically I remove all the guides and foregip( if necessary) sand the finish smooth, wipe with acetone, and repaint, and finally recoat with a few coats of rod varnish. Since most of the poles I do are either black or white, I've been using krylon fusion spray paint with good results. It seems to adhere to the blanks very well and remains flexible after curing. Make sure you check the condition of the reel seat before you re-wrap, as now would be the time to replace if necessary. Seems like alot of work, but if really like the blanks it is worth the effort.
