I've recently acquired an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5600BCX reel and wanted to know what might be a good rod to pair up with this reel.
I'm not sure what type of fishing best suits this reel but welcome any opinions.

thanks

BB - Ummm, I don't know of any one rod that is really good for both applications, without making allowances/concessions to one type fishing or the other. Its two very different types of fishing you're thinking about doing.

Not trying to be anything but truthful here - but you have me stumped.

If you want to try a nice rod for bay or VERY light beach casting, then the St. Croix Tidemaster in 7'6" H action would be a good choice. Totally unsuitable for heavy beach work though - as is your reel.

But that rod might conceiveably be useful as a boat fluke rod, I guess.

Lep-

I was thinking either fluke on a boat or bass on beach, back bay bass stuff, two different setups not one rod for both types of fishing.

Sorry for the confushion.

PS- I came across some threads in the IT&T forum talking about small abu's using Shimano Sojourn and Shimano Compre rods.

O.k., better, now I understand. Then go look at the St.Croix Tidemaster I mentioned in the 7'6" or better, the 8' size for the bassin'.

The Compre rods are not really that great for bay fluking - pretty beefy - better suited for ocean fluking with 3-10oz sinkers.

A better choice would be again, from teh Tidemaster collection - the 6'6" MH or from the SCII Premier collection the PC70MHF. Both very nice - and priced right. From Shimano there are very nice entries in the ligher Teramar blue rods, and from Daiwa, the very lightest Saltiga jigger is also very nice.

best, Lep
