Hi,

I have owned a Pac Bay ROD SMITH. It served me well for several years. Only the "0" ring drive belt broke, easily replaced. It cost over $300. It also serves as a rod dryer.

When I started to build professionally I purchased a Clemens Lathe. They cost over $500. Very good workhorse. I now own and use 2 of them.

If you go to www.rodbuilding.com and go thru the companies listed in the left side bar you will find these lathes listed in several catalogs.

You will come across a Renzetti Lathe. Very simular to the Clemens lathe.

I use the Pac Bay right now, but since I have been doing repairs for two shops as well as building from a couple more customers I have noticed that the chuck assembly comes loose pretty often and can get pretty annoying. If you will be building a lot, esspecially for other people I would recommend spending the money (if you can) on a renzetti or clemens lathe.
