Glad to hear the last rod you worked on came out so good.
I do not use "rod Varnish" any more. I am assuming this is the "Rod Varnish" we used years ago b4 2 pART EPOXY.
A few minutes b4 applying 2 part epoxy to the rod wipe it down with 91% iso alcohol. Let dry for a few minutes.

Yes, use the "rattle can", I like that, enamel just like you did the last time. I usually let it dry and cure for about 7 days. That way I know it is well set.
Now wrap as you will.
