Just picked up an Accurate 665 and would like some advice on whats out there rod wise...

Ill mainly be fishing tuna, locally (canyons) on a private boat. Im interested in the smaller Japanese style jigging rods. Price of course is somewhat of an issue. I like the TunaMax rods, Smith and the Shimano Blue rose but found them to be out of my price range. While I do like the Trevala, I feel IMHO that it's not enough rod for that reel and is kinda like putting a Hyundai motor in a Ferrari. I know a lot of guys like the Calstars and such And while they are real nice and all... a bigger heavy 7 foot rod simply just isnt for me.

So I guess my question is...Are there nice rods that fit my description for around $300ish or am I looking at $200 for a Trevala or $400-500+ for a tunamax etc...?

Thanx!

If you like Japanese short jigging rod, wait until someone sell them. :) I saw several Japanese jigging rods were on sale recently and I expect more to come before tuna season opens.

If you save some money, you can check OTI's jigging rods (www.360tackle.com). I checked their jigging rod and popping rod and they are very strong. With Fuji SIC guides, it is not bad for $230.

I also checked Hopper rod rated to 500 g. The rod and very light (lighter than Trevala rod), but very strong.
I have no doubt this rod can handle any tuna under 150 lbs. It has regular guides and you can buy it below $200.

Here are pictues of action of different rods when loaded by MrBill.
